Needs fleece hand pockets
Fit seems good and jacket seems warm. But the absence of easily accessible pockets to warm hands on a winter day is a major loss and while I love this brand I would not recommend this jacket unless your kid will be wearing warm gloves the whole time.

Fit is true to size but also roomy to grow into. My kid is 5, I ordered a 6 and the fit is roomy - which is what I wanted.

Great quality
Bought it for my 8 year old boy. Fit perfectly. Looks like a great quality and thoughtful design. Will use it later in winter season. I am sure it going be very comfortable and warm.

Quality decrease - Not terrible, but not the Neighbor
We have two sets of twins, and our eldest children had outgrown their Reima Naapuri parkas. Unfortunately, the Naapuri parka is not available in the U.S. this year (October 2024, as of this review), so we purchased two Ajaton parkas instead, as they seemed to be very similar. The good: The Ajaton parkas are comfortable to wear, fit well, and are very warm. The outer chest pocket closes with a zipper, which is much better than the fiddly velcro on the Naapuri parkas. The parkas come in beautiful rich colors, which is a rarity when it comes to children's outerwear. We got the 'thyme green' and 'cinnamon brown' colors, and the latter is actually a very nice burnt orange, true to the color shown in the photograph of the model wearing it. The parkas also have small reflectors on the pockets, wrists, back, and one shoulder, despite not all of them being shown in the product pictures on the website. Like most Reima outerwear, the parkas allow for unrestricted movement, making it easy for children to run, jump, climb, ski, and slide across the ice. Even our very sensory-selective kids don't complain about having to put on a coat when it's a Reima parka, so they are clearly very comfortable to wear. The not-so-good: The parkas still lack side entry 'hand warmer pockets' under the main pockets, which our kids really wish they had. Unlike the Naapuri parkas, the Ajaton parkas don't have an inner chest pocket, only a small pocket on the outside. This isn't a big issue, but our main problem lies with the quality of the zipper. The Naapuri parkas had a very nice heavy-duty zipper that lasted for several years, withstanding everything the kids could throw at it. The Ajaton parkas, however, have a TINY lightweight zipper, similar to the ones found on the inner pockets of cheap purses. This is a really bad idea for the main zipper of a coat, especially one for children. When we had the kids try on the parkas, both zippers were rather 'finicky,' and the zipper on the green one got stuck while taking it off. The kids were being gentle, just unzipping it as normal. I managed to get it unstuck after a minute, but it is concerning that the zipper is of lower quality than what we are used to seeing from Reima. The outer fabric of the parkas is also different from the old Naapuri parkas. It is thinner and feels 'cheaper,' making it less likely to withstand wear and tear compared to the tougher outer fabric of the Naapuri parkas. The fake-fur ruff on the edge of the hood is, to quote my son, 'a bit sad.' After gently teasing it with our fingers and leaving the parkas hanging up in the hall for a few days in the hope that it would fluff up, it is still not as full and fluffy as the one on the Naapuri parkas. It will get the job done, but again, it is a decrease in quality compared to the older Naapuri parkas. The silver reflective tab on the front edge of the chin guard is now extremely thin and only one-sided. In the case of both of our parkas, they arrived folded strangely, resulting in permanent creases. On one of the parkas, the reflective tab is partially folded over on itself, reducing its reflectivity. I tried to flatten it back out by taking off the hood and placing the two largest books in the house on top of just the reflective tab on the table for a few days, which improved it but didn't fully prevent it from wanting to fold back over on itself. For now, we are keeping these parkas, as competitors' parkas are far worse. However, only time will tell if the zippers and fabric will hold up. Considering how expensive these parkas are, I would have expected the same Reima quality that we have come to rely on over the years. It is worth noting that even my non-picky son remarked that he wished we still had the better Naapuri parkas, clearly indicating that the Ajaton parkas are lacking in comparison. I can say that the Reima Paimio down jackets that our younger twins received from Grandma last year worked out really well. They are both the kind of kids who spend afternoons doing full-belly ice slides from a running start, so they have really put the Paimio jackets to the test in terms of 'abrasion resistance.' I highly recommend the Paimio model as a potential alternative for parents looking for a warm, long-lasting, and comfortable winter coat. If your child really wants a parka-style coat, the Ajaton parkas aren't terrible, but they are definitely a step down from the Naapuri parkas. We really hope that Reima brings back the Naapuri parkas next year with the same excellent quality instead of the lesser Ajaton parkas.
